What algorithm does this diff tool use?

This tool uses the LCS (Longest Common Subsequence) algorithm for line-by-line comparison. The algorithm finds the longest common parts between two texts, then marks added, removed, and unchanged lines with color highlighting.

What do the different colors in the diff result mean?

Green background (+) indicates added lines — present in the new text but not in the original. Red background (-) indicates removed lines — present in the original but not in the new text. White background indicates unchanged lines present in both texts.

What are the ignore spaces and case options for?

Ignore leading/trailing spaces strips whitespace from each line before comparison, useful when formatting differences are irrelevant. Ignore case makes comparison case-insensitive. Ignore empty lines skips blank lines.

How large of a text can be compared?

This tool runs in the browser and can theoretically handle tens of thousands of lines. Very large files (over 100,000 lines) may cause the browser to slow down. Consider processing large files in segments.
